Jason Lowrey's graduate thesis "Softwar: A Novel Theory on Power Projection and the National Strategic Significance of Bitcoin" has become a best seller on Amazon. Lowrey is a major heading the U.S. Space Force and he researched that paper during a six-month fellowship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The thesis focuses on Bitcoin's potential for securing information, offering an alternative to its current monetary usage. Lowrey argues that Bitcoin's proof-of-work system can be used to physically constrain computers and to help military powers impose restrictions on malicious actors, something he calls "Power Projection Theory".

He also urges the U.S. government to consider stockpiling strategic Bitcoin reserves or at least encourage its adoption, since not doing so could put the nation's national security in peril. Lowrey affirms that the thesis is not reflective of any official position held by the Department of Defense, Air Force or MIT.

The statements have been met with some controversy, as reviews on Amazon point out the paper's weaknesses. Some say there is too much wishful thinking, arguments based on opinion and quotes from the film "The Matrix" that take away the seriousness of the topic.

Nevertheless, the book manages to stay among the top three in the books on technology and engineering and digital currencies categories.

Furthermore, Lowrey claims that he has advised senior U.S. officials on Bitcoin-related policy in offices related to the president and Secretary of Defense, among others.

Overall, Jason Lowery's thesis attempts to suggest a novel usage for Bitcoin beyond its current monetary purpose. Despite criticism, it has become a popular pick on Amazon, being praised by many who have given it five stars while promised to give valuable information to those interested in the subject.
