South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol has called for an "all-out war" against drug traffickers who are making use of cryptocurrencies to conduct criminal activities. After a case involving a teen selling drugs via Telegram, dark web, and cryptocurrency got revealed, Yoon declared the need to mobilize all government capabilities in the drug fight. He stated the shocking number of 390,000 doses of narcotics distributed among teenagers was the final push.

Korean language drug dealers are taking advantage of the internet and social media, advertising their services without any restraint. Yoon is expecting the drug-related crime cases to surpass 20,000 this year and urged to address this problem with a comprehensive response. The President encouraged investigative and judicial authorities to join forces in significantly reducing crime.

However, the Democratic Party expresses their reservations about the strategies formulated by the Ministry of Justice. Some of the proposed powers for enforcement violate the fundamental rights of citizens and the party is pushing for an immediate quarantine. Yoon strongly believes that the elimination of drug trafficking is a must in order to protect and conserve our next generation from harmful narcotics. He added it is the result of authorities like coast guard, health authorities, and customs officials that South Korea has remained free of drugs for over 10 years.
