The IoT project Helium is migrating to Solana blockchain in order to benefit from better stability and scalability. This transition process was initiated at 16:00UTC yesterday and is expected to complete within 24 hours. Existing Helium tokens (HNT) and MOBILE will be mapped to the Solana blockchain. The aim of this migration is to make the Helium Network faster, cheaper, and more reliable.

However, the crypto community has raised concerns over choosing Solana as it has a history of outages and technical issues. For example, in November last year, Solana’s mainnet was down due to a software bug. Earlier this year, in February, Solana had a technical issue that disrupted user transactions. Despite mixed reactions, the majority of people had voted in favor of the migration to Solana through The Helium Improvement Proposal 70 (HIP-70) which received 81.41% of votes.

The HNT token got delisted from the Binance platform last month after a review, causing its price to drop by 18% in a single day. In contrast, HNT support will continue from KuCoin, OKX, Crypto.com, Gate.io, and Bybit.

This migration is set to bring major improvements in Helium Network by making it faster, cheaper, and much more stable for users. Furthermore, the project is hoping to benefit from Solana’s robust developer ecosystem. We will have to wait and watch if the migration to Solana would benefit Helium Network or could the project end up in a similar situation with Solana outages.
