Chainalysis and the Calgary police department have made a unique partnership to create the Western Canada Cryptocurrency Investigations Center. This center is meant to combat the increasing prevalence of cryptocurrency-related crime in Western Canada. Chainalysis notes that Canada has seen a significant increase in engagement with cryptocurrency ATMs, decentralized exchanges, and centralised exchanges, with an increase of up to 865 percent since March of 2019. Unfortunately, with this impressive increase in cryptocurrency adoption rates, comes a rise in crime, with over $41 million being lost to scams in 2022 alone.

The Calgary police department is taking steps to combat this increase in illegal activity, utilizing the expertise of Chainalysis to augment their law enforcement training programs and provide around-the-clock case support. This venture is meant to be a model for other countries to look at when it comes to public-private partnerships.

Chainalysis has plans to expand this investment, eventually scaling it to agencies worldwide with bespoke solutions to suit each area. The hope is that this program will be able to protect Canadians and build trust in digital assets. As cryptocurrencies become more widespread and accepted, it's crucial that measures are taken to ensure that people are safe from any potential criminal activity. The Western Canada Cryptocurrency Investigations Center is a step in the right direction to achieve that goal.
