Namada, a blockchain that focuses on privacy, is proposing an airdrop of its upcoming staking token (NAM) to holders of Zcash (ZEC), the cryptocurrency native to Zcash, the privacy-focused blockchain. This will be the first direct airdrop to shielded ZEC holders, those users who choose to keep their transaction details private. Namada and Zcash both use a type of cryptography called zero-knowledge proofs which allow verifying of transactions without revealing the sender, receiver or the amount. The Anoma Foundation, the organization behind Namada, plans to allocate at least 20% of the initial NAM supply - estimated to be 1 billion NAM - as a way of giving back to projects and communities that contributed, such as Zcash. This airdrop will also form part of their retroactive public goods funding and their proposed alliance with the Zcash community to collaborate on research and development. Christopher Goes, a board member of the Anoma Foundation, stated that Namada wouldn't have been possible without the assistance of Zcash and its technical and socio-economic contribution. The exact timing and mechanics of the airdrop will be released in May 2023, when the mainnet for Namada is expected to launch.
