Arbitrum, one of the leading Layer 2 (L2) scaling solutions, is swapping its assets from the existing Tether (USDT) standard to the new USDT0 standard. The switch aims to enhance compatibility and enable seamless movements of the stablecoin between different chains. Tether will automatically replace bridged tokens with USDT0, and the migration will begin on January 29. Users on DeFi protocols will have their assets swapped automatically, without any additional actions required. The new token standard, USDT0, is backed 1:1 by the ERC-20 USDT on Ethereum and can move between chains with minimal fees and no need for additional bridging. The launch of USDT0 comes as Tether expands its presence in the international and DeFi sectors.
