Belarus is preparing to launch its own official cryptocurrency, according to President Alexander Lukashenko. Lukashenko stated that the country is working on creating a cryptocurrency and that it has a surplus of electricity. The move aligns with the trend of more countries exploring the issuance of cryptocurrencies as digital assets gain traction in international markets. Lukashenko mentioned that the cryptocurrency could be used to facilitate transnational trade, particularly in the face of sanctions that Belarus faces. While the country is not known for abundant domestic energy production, the recent installation of the second reactor of the Belarusian nuclear power plant aims to reduce dependence on Russian natural gas and meet over 40% of national energy needs.
