Rosseti, Russia's largest power grid operator, is considering entering the cryptocurrency mining industry by utilizing its underutilized power centers. The state-owned energy provider sees this as an opportunity to increase its tariff revenue and tax payments while also contributing to economic development. Rosseti has confirmed its technical readiness for mining operations and is discussing various aspects of its mining development strategy, including the potential introduction of a separate tariff structure for miners. Last year, Russia implemented a law regulating crypto mining, and due to power shortages, the government has banned mining in certain regions from 2025 to 2031.
