The TON Core team has announced plans to launch a layer-2 payment network as part of The Open Network's roadmap for 2025. This payment network was originally outlined in the TON whitepaper and will allow for instant money transfers between nodes on the TON blockchain. The team is also working on other objectives such as the Accelerator mainnet upgrade, sidechain research, trustless bridging between TON and Bitcoin, and user interface improvements. Interoperability is a key focus, with collaborations with Axelar, LayerZero, and Wormhole planned. The layer-2 Payment Network is currently in the Beta stage with a working prototype, but further testing and support for additional currencies and swaps are planned.
