The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York has launched a new Web3 gaming platform called Art Links, in collaboration with blockchain start-up TR Labs. The game, built on Coinbase's Base blockchain, challenges players to identify connections between over 140 artworks from The Met's collection by creating chains of seven artworks and six connections. Successful players can claim free NFT badges and earn achievements, with the opportunity to unlock real-life rewards such as discounts at The Met Store or curator-led tours. Art Links also provides educational moments for users to learn about art history. The game will run for 12 weeks and is available on The Met's website. This is not The Met's first venture into blockchain, as in 2023, the museum collaborated with the gaming platform for an augmented reality app called Replica.
