Nasdaq has submitted a proposal to the SEC to introduce "in-kind" bitcoin redemptions for BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), a Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF). This new system would allow institutional participants to exchange ETF shares directly for bitcoin, simplifying the redemption process and cutting costs. While this option would only be available to institutional players, experts suggest that the improved efficiency could indirectly benefit retail investors. Nasdaq's proposal aligns with recent regulatory developments that support the adoption of cryptocurrencies. If approved, this proposal could enhance the appeal and performance of Bitcoin ETFs for institutional investors and solidify them as a cornerstone of institutional digital asset investment.
