The development of AI technology has been moving at a phenomenal pace, with tech giants like OpenAI releasing their ChatGPT-4 chatbot and more and more capabilities being discovered from this technology every day. While opinions on AI are mixed, with some claiming it is something to be feared, The Sandbox co-Founder & COO Sebastien Borget, and president of the Blockchain Game Alliance, has a different opinion on the matter.

Having recently spoken to Cointelegraph reporter Jesse Coghlan at the WOW Summit Hong Kong 2023, Borget is extremely excited about the possibilities that AI offers creators. He believes the technology will enable them to create content at an even faster rate than before while also “bringing more life, more expression and feeling, and more diverse and inclusive avatars” to the metaverse, as a company is creating an AI application that can take emotions directly from smartphone video clips and add them to an avatar.

The advantages of AI don’t just end there. It is also seen as a way to improve safety in the Web3 space, with some suggesting AI-based tools could bring transparency and security to NFT markets. Furthermore, AI is believed to be able to provide more accurate representations of physical world social experiences in the metaverse.

There are, however, plenty of AI skeptics around. In March of this year over 2,600 tech industry leaders and researchers, including Elon Musk, signed an open letter raising their concerns on the dangers that could come with the further developing of AI. The warning of “profound risks to society and humanity” was made due to the speed of development.

It is uncertain of just how AI technology though could ultimately shake up our lives and impact the blockchain-based industry. But what is certainly true is that its potential is immense and thus requires more action from the authorities and from researchers alike to make sure the positive applications of AI far outweigh its potential risks.
