Cryptocurrency donations are on the rise, and The Giving Block, a crypto charity platform, predicted that their cumulative total could exceed $10 billion within the next decade. The platform's report, “Crypto Philanthropy Data, Trends & Predictions,” examined available data, the potential price trajectory of Bitcoin (BTC), the most popular cryptocurrencies being used for donations, and the largest crypto donation of the year.

Data collected by The Giving Block revealed that all-time crypto donations in the platform had surpassed $125 million as of 2022. Predictions included reaching a total of $1 billion in August 2027, reach $5 billion in June 2031, and exceed the $10 billion mark by November 2032. These predictions are based on an analysis of Bitcoin's capacity to reach its projected price trajectory at $100,000 by September 2026 and $250,000 by October 2029.

USD Coin (USDC) topped the cryptocurrencies used for donations with 44%, followed by Ether (ETH) with 24% and BTC with 17%. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin held the record for the largest crypto donation of the year, generously donating $9.4 million via Balvi, his philanthropic fund.

Several charities have benefited from crypto donations, with two of the greatest examples being Orangutan Outreach and Trees for the Future. The former is a orangutan conservation project that cares for orphaned and displaced orangutans, while the latter is a regenerative agriculture nonprofit that has planted 2.3 million trees based on the crypto donations they've received.

The rise of cryptocurrency donations is unparalleled, with an estimate of hitting $10 billion in the foreseeable future. With its advantages of speed, global reach, and efficiency, not to mention tax breaks, one can only expect that more and more people and institutions are set to jump onto the crypto donation bandwagon.
