A crypto investor recently lost over $3.8 million worth of Rocket Pool (RPL) tokens in a phishing attack. Lookonchain, an analytics network, discovered this loss on their channel and published a post highlighting the details of the attack. Reports show that the stolen amount of RPL tokens was scammed in two transactions, with the first one netting the attacker 64,423 RPL tokens and the second one acquiring 21,474 RPL tokens. The value of the stolen tokens amounted to over $3.83 million according to the Ethereum blockchain analytics company.

The gas fee for the entire transaction was just over $6, showing that attackers are cleverly phishing for funds. Lookonchain mentioned an investigator, ZachXBT, in their report, suggesting the use of Venom Drainer as the method of attack. This generated a lot of interest from the crypto community, with a Twitter user asking Etherscan to completely blacklist the fake phishing account.

It's unfortunately common for investors in the cryptocurrency space to not be aware of the risks of attack. In early March, a similar incident occurred where an investor lost $4 million worth of ERC-20 tokens. Crypto scamming and phishing attacks can lead to financial ruin if investors are not cautious and informed. In one positive story, a scammer who goes by the name Monkey Drainer recently announced their exit from the business.

It is paramount that all investors take full precautions before investing in the crypto space. It is important to remember to never click on any links from unknown sources, to always be wary of too-good-to-be-true deals and to choose the right security options such as two-factor authentication and wallet encryption. Doing so could save investors a great sum of money that might have been targeted for phishing attacks.
