CoinTR, a local cryptocurrency exchange in Turkey, took action after the 6th February 2023 earthquake that affected more than 9 million people across the country, with thousands seeking refuge in temporary shelters and many families separated. In cooperation with Umut Sensin Association—a Turkish NGO—CoinTR set up a relief tent in Pinarbasi, Kahramanmarash Elbistan, where they built the first “children’s cinema”, playing movies such as “Ice Age” to provide an uplifting experience for the youngsters affected by the disaster. While the tent cinema was available, the NGO and CoinTR also provided the kids with popcorn toys and other fun activities.

The relief efforts of CoinTR didn’t stop there. A team of volunteers from the exchange contributed to a food tent sponsored by Umut Sensin and provided hot meals to more than 6,500 people three times a day. The CEO of CoinTR said: “The recent earthquake in Turkey has had a devastating impact on many people and communities. We are calling on our industry peers to unite again and provide support in these times of crisis.”
