Ethereum is preparing for a major upgrade called Pectra, which will allow users to pay fees in ERC-20 tokens such as Shiba Inu (SHIB). This upgrade combines 11 Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) and is expected to bring improvements to staking efficiency, wallet usability, and scalability. The upgrade includes the account abstraction feature, allowing users to pay gas fees with alternative ERC-20 tokens, initially supporting stablecoins like USD Coin and Dai. There is speculation that other tokens within the Shiba Inu ecosystem, such as SHIB, BONE, and TREAT, could also be supported. Pectra is scheduled for March 2025 and is expected to introduce other upgrades such as raising the staking limit and enhancing smart contract functionality. The upgrade faced a delay on the testnet but is still planned to launch on March 5, with a possible mainnet launch in early April 2025.
