The Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office has established a joint investigation unit focused on cryptocurrency-related crimes and fraud. The unit, called JIU for Virtual Asset Crimes, consists of 35 full-time employees including prosecutors and financial regulators. Initially created as a temporary task force in 2023, the unit has now been transformed into a formal department due to the increasing number of crypto-related fraud cases in South Korea. Since its formation, the task force has indicted 74 individuals and arrested 25 people involved in unfair trade practices and illicit activities related to crypto. The unit aims to establish an effective crime response system by collaborating closely with relevant organizations.
