Malaysia's Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, has highlighted the significance of blockchain technology in enhancing digital security in Southeast Asia. Speaking at a security summit, Zahid called for increased security measures to combat cybercrime, noting that criminals are increasingly utilizing emerging technologies like AI for complex attacks. He proposed the implementation of a national blockchain-powered identity verification system to safeguard digital transactions and mitigate identity fraud. Zahid also recommended the adoption of AI-driven predictive policing and real-time urban surveillance. Additionally, he called for the launch of a Cybercrime Task Force by ASEAN to address the growing digital crimes in the region, including the rise in pig butchering scams.
