Kazakhstan's president, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, is urging for urgent changes to expand the country's legal crypto operations and improve its infrastructure for digital assets. Currently, a majority of crypto users in Kazakhstan operate in the "gray zone," with only 5% using regulated platforms. Tokayev emphasized the need to create a more comprehensive legislative framework to facilitate broader legal circulation of digital assets. The country's financial watchdog has also taken action against illegal crypto exchanges, shutting down 36 platforms with a total turnover of $112.84 million in 2024 and blocking access to over 3,500 unregistered trading sites.
