South Korea is set to establish a dedicated unit within the prosecution service to tackle cryptocurrency crimes. Initially formed as a task force in mid-2023, the unit has been instrumental in arresting individuals, seizing assets, and making significant progress in combating crypto-related criminal activities. The government plans to upgrade the task force to a full department by February or March 2025 to address the rising cases of crypto crime. The new department will include representatives from regulatory bodies and key government agencies to improve collaboration and effectively handle the complexity of cryptocurrency-related crimes. The Ministry of Justice is gathering public feedback on the proposal, with plans to launch the unit officially by early March 2025, as part of South Korea's efforts to regulate and police the cryptocurrency market.
