The Aptos Labs team has announced that their sharded execution engine has enabled the Aptos Layer 1 blockchain to achieve horizontal scalability. This allows the blockchain to handle a high number of transactions per second, with up to 1 million TPS for non-conflicting transactions and over 500,000 TPS for conflicting transactions. The ability to achieve infinite horizontal scalability is seen as a significant development in the crypto industry's pursuit of faster execution speeds. This milestone is expected to accelerate the growth of Web3 by separating consensus from storage and maximizing throughput. Aptos Labs previously announced Zaptos, a platform designed to reduce latency and achieve sub-second finality at 20,000 TPS, which has the potential to transform sectors such as DeFi, gaming, and crypto payments.
