Chinese AI start-up DeepSeek AI is restricting access to its application programming interface (API) service due to overwhelming demand and limited server capacity. The company disabled the top-up button on its platform website and suspended customers' ability to add API credits. However, existing credits will not be affected. DeepSeek's AI model generated excitement in January, causing a $1tn rout in US and European tech stocks. The company has faced investigations from regulators in the US, South Korea, France, and Ireland regarding data protection and acquisition of Nvidia semiconductors. DeepSeek plans to end its discounts on access to its models and introduce new pricing tiers.
