Romania is heavily investing in blockchain technologies and Nonfungible Tokens (NFTs), by launching a national NFT marketplace initiative, the ICI D|Services platform. This platform, set to go live on April 26 and administered by the National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics (ICI Bucharest) will allow users to mint, manage, and trade (buy and sell) their NFTs.

The rise of NFTs is due to the opportunities they present in creating unique and scarce digital assets, with capabilities and potential for numerous use-cases. This has become increasingly valuable for institutions, leading to plans to launch the ICI D|Services platform. The development of this platform was implemented by the ICI Bucharest in partnership with MultiversX, as well as receiving backing from the Romanian government through the Secretariat-General, as well as the Romanian Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitalization.

The platform launch will be accompanied by five unique NFT collections, created in collaboration with Romanian sportspersons, organizations, and institutions. This includes the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee, the world record holder swimmer David Popovici, the Romanian news agency Agerpres, Romfilatelia (national philately organization) and Bucharest’s Central University Library.

Thanks to the initiative launched by ICI Bucharest and MultiversX, not only does Romania benefit from revenue generation and economic growth, but it also offers an example of a technology-embracing environment that fosters a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship. This collaboration allows for user interaction between citizens, businesses and institutions and advances Romania towards their goal of implementing the potential of blockchain, Web3 and NFTs.
