The Bored Ape Yacht Club, created by Yuga Labs, is celebrating its two year anniversary of bringing Non-Fungible Token (NFT) powered monkey business to the world. Launching in April of 2021, the Ethereum-based collection of 10,000 unique ape avatars immediately earned millions of dollars in revenue and sold out within hours. It has continuously proven to be a massive success, earning it a price floor of 50.91 ETH and a market capitalization ranking it number one on the NFT platform.

The franchise draws its inspiration from the popular Planet of the Apes film trilogy and has only continued to grow in popularity. Over the past 24 hours, 31 items were sold, generating a volume of over 1,600 ETH and increasing the price by 0.81%. BAYC has now generated 17,000 ETH in the last month alone, worth roughly $37.4 million.

Perhaps the standout features that have made Bored Ape Yacht Club so successful is its elite club membership and the IP rights granted to the owners of the NFT tokens. Rappers Eminem and Snoop Dogg, for example, had performed as their BAYC personas at the MTV Video Music Awards the year prior. Furthermore, BAYC's overall features such as universal IP and the growth of brands have made it a point-of-interest for many in the NFT space

It's not been all good news for the project however. Recently, the group had to prevail over Ryder Ripps in the courts. The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California determined in a summary judgement that Yuga Labs was the rightful owner of the BAYC trademarks and that they were legitimate and enforceable, while also determining Ripps’s use of BAYC trademarks did not qualify as fair use.

Ultimately, BAYC's two year anniversary is packed with success, notable recognitions and improvements along the way. Its ERC-721 standard and wrappless NFTs have made it a preferred asset of many, while its mint price of 0.08 ETH has grown to an average of 51.634 ETH per transaction.
