Ledger, a well-known brand of cryptocurrency hardware wallets, recently drew attention to a problem encountered by their customers when interacting with XRP. According to their tweet, some customers ran into errors while attempting to add an XRP account or transfer XRP through their Ledger Live mobile app. Ledger was keen to point out, however, that none of the customers' funds were in jeopardy. In order to solve the problem, they asked mobile app users to upgrade to the most recent version (3.20.1), yet some customers have indicated the issue lies with the update itself.

In the meantime, Ledger advised customers with the issues to use the Ledger Live desktop app to view and manage their XRP assets in lieu of the mobile application. While the cause of the "API HTTP 418" error code that has been popping up has yet to be determined, Ledger has continued to be transparent with their customers on the update's progress.

While the error comes from the Hyper Text Coffee Pot Control Protocol (HTCPCP), it does not reflect the security of customers' crypto funds as those remain stored safely on hardware wallets. This is an important reminder that digital asset security is drastically improved with hardware wallets, especially given the prevalence of crypto hacks and scams in the industry. Certik recently reported that April 2021-alone saw an approximate loss of $103.6 million to such exploitations. Fortunately, Ledger faced none of these risks and did confirm that the breach they experienced in 2020 only impacted their e-commerce data, not users' assets.
