Ethereum developers are already planning the next big upgrade to their blockchain, known as the Dencun upgrade. This upgrade is made up of two simultaneous upgrades, “Cancun” and “Deneb”, and its main objective is to increase the storage capacity of “blobs” of data and to reduce fees for layer 2 rollups. It will also include three other technical upgrades; EIPs 6780, 6475 and 1153.

Ethereum developers had their official call Thursday in order to discuss the details of EIP 4844, the proposal at the core of the Dencun upgrade. After the successful Shapella upgrade last month, which enabled staked ETH withdrawals, the developers are aiming to push the Dencun upgrade live in the second half of 2023. In the next few weeks they will be testing out additional EIPs to determine the full scope of the Dencun upgrade.

The upgrades proposed by Dencun have the potential to very significantly enhance the level of scalability and user experience on the Ethereum blockchain. This comes as no surprise since Ethereum consistently sets the standard for blockchain technology, having successfully implemented EIPs such as Shapella and Berlin in the past. The team at the Ethereum Foundation is known for their ability to innovate and think long-term in their efforts to create a fully scalable blockchain system.

It's no secret that Ethereum users and developers everywhere can't wait for the Dencun upgrade and what it holds for the future development of the blockchain. By increasing storage capacity, reducing fees, and introducing important technical upgrades, Dencun will not only make the Ethereum blockchain more resilient, but it will also unlock new possibilities for innovation and DApp development. After last month’s successful Shapella upgrade, Ethereum developers are certainly looking forward to another major development milestone for the blockchain.

Ethereum developers are rapidly pushing forward with plans for the upcoming Dencun upgrade, the next major improvement to the blockchain. This upgrade is a combination of two simultaneous upgrades on the execution and consensus layers, “Cancun” and “Deneb” respectively. The centerpiece of the Dencun upgrade is EIP 4844, which aims to increase the storage capacity of “blobs” of data and to reduce fees for layer 2 rollups. In addition to EIP 4844, the upgrade will also include three other technical upgrades, EIPs 6780, 6475 and 1153.

Ethereum developers examined the technical details of EIP 4844 in an official call Thursday, planning to push the upgrade live in the second half of 2023. During the next few weeks, the developers will be looking into additional EIPs to determine the full scope of the Dencun upgrade.

The Dencun upgrade is expected to bring significant scalability and user experience improvements for the Ethereum blockchain. This is par for the course for Ethereum users and developers, who are used to the blockchain leading the pack in terms of innovation, having already successfully implemented major upgrades such as Shapella and Berlin. By increasing storage capacity, reducing fees, and introducing other important technical upgrades, Dencun will not only make the Ethereum blockchain more resilient, but it will also provide bigger opportunities for innovation and DApp development. The team at the Ethereum Foundation looks to the future with their efforts, creating a fully scalable blockchain system that can evolve and accommodate different types of transactions. Following the successful Shapella upgrade last month, all eyes are now on the Dencun upgrade and what it seeks to achieve.
