The South Korean Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) has fined Worldcoin developer Tools for Humanity over $830,000 for violating local privacy laws. The Worldcoin Foundation failed to provide sufficient information about the collection and storage of scanned iris data and did not provide a Korean translation of the biometric data consent form. The foundation was also fined for improperly handling and transferring sensitive information abroad. The investigation was launched following complaints that Worldcoin was collecting biometric data without permission. Despite the penalty, Worldcoin's altcoin (WLD) saw a 15.9% increase in the last 24 hours.
