Polkadot an ‘equal layer 0 blockchain’ has recently trademarked the phrase ‘Polkadot Converse’ which many believe is a blockchain-based messaging application. The filing was done under the ‘Good and Services’ section that covers software for social networking, software for creating, managing, and interacting with an online community, software for creating, software for sending and receiving electronic messages, graphics, images, audio content.
The trademark is seen as Polkadot’s response to the other web3 industry efforts in developing a social media like platform, such as Steemit and Nostr, which are yet to take off. Polkadot (DOT) which is the 11th largest cryptocurrency in terms of market capitalization, currently at $7.5 billion, according to CoinDesk.
The move of Polkadot based messaging application also changes their focus from their previously concentrated efforts on their parachain technology and rapid transaction speeds. On the same, Polkadot’s press team did not respond to CoinDesk’s request for comment.
Polkadot releasing the new blockchain-based messaging application is likely to increase interaction between cryptocurrency users significantly.
