The Celo Foundation has embarked on an ambitious partnership with Google Cloud in order to aid mission-aligned projects within the Celo blockchain ecosystem and to advance the early adoption of Google Cloud services. This will be complemented by the awards of usage credits for both Google Cloud and Firebase, which is Google's mobile and web application platform.

In addition to the provision of usage credits, the collaboration between the two organizations will involve the Google Cloud team providing mentorship and guidance to the Celo Foundation's 'Founders in Residence' program, as well as taking part in the 'Celo Camp' accelerator program. This program is designed to assist entrepreneurs with developing sustainability-focused startups. It is also intended that joint hackathons, workshops, and events will be held which will involve the exploration of wider themes, such as 'Web3 sustainability' and 'innovation'.

Xochitl Cazador, Celo Foundation's head of ecosystem growth, commented that “Google Cloud’s core team will also support the Celo Foundation through joint hackathons, workshops, and events centered on the intersection of Web3 and sustainability”. This highlights the ambition of the partnership between the Celo Foundation and Google Cloud, and many such projects are likely to be ground-breaking.

Cazador further stated that there are many challenges facing sustainability-focused startups that operate within the Celo Network, such as the time consuming onboarding processes, the complexity of the user interfaces and the unfamiliar transaction fee currencies. The implementation of Google Cloud and Firebase usage credits is likely to assist with overcoming these challenges.

Celo is a blockchain platform that has gained a great deal of recognition and standing within the Web3 community. Its core feature is a proof-of-stake consensus model, which has lead to the platform reaching 'carbon negativity'. There is a wide array of more than 1,000 associated projects that operate in over 150 countries.

Rene Reinsberg, president of the Celo Foundation and co-founder of the Celo blockchain, believes that the increasing layer-1 blockchains and layer-2 networks provide various opportunities to bring more people into crypto. This ties into the partnership with Google Cloud, as this provides greater access to the world of crypto, as well as providing sustainable solutions for startups, and further increasing the potential for mass adoption.
