During his speech at Bitcoin 2024, incoming US President Donald Trump promised to fire Gary Gensler as Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Trump plans to appoint a new SEC Chairman on day one of his presidency. Some potential candidates for the position include Hester Peirce, a current SEC Commissioner known for her pro-crypto stance, Brian Brooks, former Acting Comptroller of the Currency and executive in the crypto industry, Christopher Giancarlo and Heath Tarbert, both ex-Chairmen of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), and Daniel Gallagher, Chief Legal Officer at Robinhood. These candidates are seen as more crypto-friendly than Gensler, who has an anti-crypto stance. While Trump's intentions to replace Gensler are clear, the process for removing him from his position remains uncertain.
