German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has called for a snap election after the collapse of his three-party coalition government. He wants a vote of confidence to occur by January, in order to move the federal election forward from September to March. This decision comes after Scholz dismissed Finance Minister Christian Lindner, who refused a proposal to suspend rules limiting government borrowing.
