Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino has shared his plan to address the electricity crisis in Africa by deploying a network of kiosks with solar panels and high-performance batteries. These kiosks will provide electricity to local communities, and users can pay for the service in local currency, Bitcoin, or USDT. Ardoino stated that a few hundred kiosks are already operational, and the network will be expanded in two phases, reaching up to 100,000 locations. The initiative has received mixed reactions, with some expressing skepticism and others praising the effort. Tether has been focused on empowering individuals in regions like Africa and Latin America through its stablecoin, USDT. The company's role in these areas has also faced scrutiny in the US, with concerns over transparency, involvement in sanctioned nations, and potential ties to illegal activities. As a recovery plan, Tether may shift its focus from USD-pegged stablecoins to Bitcoin and expand its influence in other regions.
