Canadian Bitcoin developer Peter Todd criticized the idea of including altcoins like XRP and Solana in a strategic cryptocurrency reserve, calling it an "obvious scam" that would benefit centralized parties. He argued that a Bitcoin-only reserve would be similar to a gold reserve. The reserve announcement faced backlash from Bitcoin maximalists and even pro-crypto figures like Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley. Todd, who was paid to analyze Ripple in 2015, has been a longstanding critic of XRP. He suggested that if Ripple admitted XRP's centralized nature, it would be harder to criticize.
