Japanese authorities are planning to integrate emerging technologies like AI, IoT, and blockchain into the nation's water supply and sewage systems within the next three years. The move aims to improve consumer safety and enhance efficiency. The decision follows a road collapse incident caused by a broken sewage pipe. Municipal and local governments will direct agencies to take preliminary steps to integrate the technologies. Japan has previously disclosed a five-year blueprint for upgrading public services with emerging technologies, but the recent directive from the prime minister's panel aims to speed up the timeline to three years. Meanwhile, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has pledged a $125 million loan to Uzbekistan for overhauling the country's water systems using emerging technologies. The funds will be used to integrate smart water management systems through AI and IoT technology to improve water usage and reduce energy consumption.
