The Secretary of the U.S. Department of Treasury, Scott Bessent, has appointed Tyler Williams, the head of Regulatory and Legislative Affairs and regulatory Counsel at Galaxy Digital, as an advisor on digital assets and blockchain policies. Williams, who previously held a position at the Treasury under Steven Mnuchin, will work with Bessent to explore comprehensive crypto regulatory frameworks. The appointments follow President Trump's executive order to strengthen digital asset technology and create regulatory clarity. The order also directed the Treasury to prevent crypto use in illegal activities and ensure national security during crypto use. Additionally, Trump signed an executive order directing the Treasury and Commerce departments to create a sovereign wealth fund and explore the establishment of a national strategic Bitcoin reserve. Williams commented on the government's new perspective on digital assets during an event hosted by Kai Meta, Digital Chamber, and Chainlink, expressing the Trump administration's interest in leveraging digital assets to boost the U.S. economy.
