The Mystery Society, a web-based game that initially launched on the Ethereum scaling network Polygon and later migrated to Immutable, has announced that it will be suspending development. The decision comes as the team has struggled to secure funding for the game due to the current state of Web3 gaming. CEO Chris Heatherly cited the crashing crypto market, the lack of risk appetite among investors, and the dominance of meme coins as factors contributing to the challenges faced by crypto game creators. Heatherly believes that Web3 gaming has a future but emphasizes the need to move away from the "get-rich-quick fantasy" and focus on building healthy on-chain businesses. The Mystery Society is considering relaunching the game without Web3 elements or seeking a new publisher. Despite the setback, Heatherly remains hopeful and has received outreach from various chains and creators in the space, indicating potential opportunities for the future.
