BitMEX, a popular cryptocurrency exchange and derivatives trading platform, is reportedly looking for a buyer. The exchange, co-founded by Arthur Hayes in 2014, has appointed investment bank Broadhaven Capital Partners to assist with the sales process. This comes at a time when there has been increasing interest in M&A activity within the crypto derivatives space. In 2020, BitMEX faced allegations of inadequate anti-money laundering measures and later pled guilty to the charges. The co-founders, including Hayes, resigned as a result. BitMEX and Broadhaven have declined to comment on the acquisition plans.
