Blockchain security experts have discovered a fake mobile app called BOM that stole over $1.8 million in cryptocurrency from users' wallets. The app secretly accessed users' private keys and mnemonic phrases, scanning device storage and sending the stolen wallet data to a remote server. The app asked for unnecessary permissions like access to photos and media, which experts found highly suspicious. The stolen funds were tracked across multiple blockchains, and the hacker address is believed to have stolen from at least 13,000 victims. The attackers have already tried to cover their tracks by taking the app's backend services offline. Some funds were swapped on decentralized exchange platforms.
