The CoinMarketCap Altcoin Season Index shows that altcoin season is still in effect, with altcoins maintaining an edge over Bitcoin. The index measures the performance of the top 100 cryptocurrencies against Bitcoin over the past 90 days. Altcoins must outperform Bitcoin for a full-fledged altcoin season, and currently at least 75% of the top 100 coins are doing so. Despite a slight dip in the index, altcoins are still showing strength and dominance in the market. This trend is attributed to increased trading volumes and investor interest in altcoins, as well as heightened innovation and demand in the altcoin ecosystem. Traders and investors are paying more attention to altcoins, indicating a growing appetite for diversity in cryptocurrency portfolios. Although Bitcoin remains the largest cryptocurrency, its dominance is being challenged by the surge in altcoin activity. Altcoins like Ethereum and Solana are expected to continue performing well in 2025.
