Ethereum developers are considering dividing the highly anticipated Pectra upgrade into two parts due to the complexity and risk of doing too much at once. The first part would include Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) to improve wallets, while the second part would focus on upgrading Ethereum's Virtual Machine. If developers agree on the split, the first package could be available as early as February 2025. However, one downside would be delaying the PeerDAS feature, which aims to improve data availability on Ethereum and may result in slightly higher fees for layer-2 blockchains. Overall, a split is seen as the right decision to reduce risk and ensure smoother implementation.
