River, a major U.S. Bitcoin exchange, has launched a new feature called River Proof of Reserves to provide proof to clients that their Bitcoin holdings are fully reserved. This move aims to rebuild consumer trust in the wake of recent exchange failures. The feature allows clients to independently verify that their Bitcoin is held in full reserve multi-sig cold storage. River currently holds over $800 million worth of Bitcoin for its clients and aims to set a transparency standard for the industry. The added transparency can prevent fractional reserve practices and help restore faith in intermediaries while avoiding dangerous leverage in the system.
