Circle, the issuer of the second-largest stablecoin USDC, plans to upgrade its bridged version of USDC to native issuance on the Layer 2 blockchain Linea. This upgrade will provide enhanced security and faster transactions. Linea will be the first blockchain network to seamlessly upgrade its bridged USDC to native issuance, maintaining the same contract address and liquidity. The upgrade will occur on March 16, 2025, and users will still be able to use USDC.e for trading, spending, and swapping. This upgrade will also enable access to Circle's Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol and support for cross-chain transfers with other blockchains like Ethereum, Avalanche, and Base. Linea has experienced significant growth since its launch, with over 400 decentralized applications and more than $250 million in transactions.
