The government of Zanzibar has launched a blockchain sandbox to support local blockchain startups and attract innovators from neighboring countries. The sandbox aims to create a favorable environment for the development of blockchain and other emerging technologies. Priority will be given to startups working on key challenges in the region, including financial inclusion, certificate issuance, and identity verification. Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous group of islands off the coast of East Africa and has its own government.
Meanwhile, the Vietnamese government has launched a national blockchain strategy with the goal of becoming Asia's blockchain hub. The strategy aims to lay the groundwork for blockchain adoption by 2025 and make Vietnam a blockchain hub by 2030. Key pillars of the strategy include growing digital infrastructure, establishing growth control mechanisms, and building a sustainable digital economy. The strategy also outlines specific actions such as offering legal clarity to the sector, investing in research and development, and integrating blockchain into education. The Vietnam Blockchain Association (VBA) has been assigned a role in implementing the strategy. However, Vietnam still lacks a comprehensive legal framework for blockchain and digital assets.
