The Ryuganji Temple in Kyoto, Japan, is offering 1,500 free animated non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to promote Japanese Buddhist culture worldwide. Users can claim the NFTs from the official website starting November 1, and they can also collect them directly at the temple from November 9, 2024. The NFT includes a video showcasing the temple's gate and main hall, as well as animated brushstroke calligraphy. To receive a free NFT, users must complete a survey on the website and connect their blockchain wallet. The initiative is part of a project by advertising production company Goshuin Japan to introduce Japanese temples to the world through NFTs. The NFTs are inspired by goshuin, the hand-written calligraphy stamps commonly collected by worshippers at temples in Japan. The head priest of Ryuganji Temple hopes that more people will discover the temple and Japanese culture through collecting the NFTs. This project aligns with Japan's plan to utilize blockchain technology and NFTs to promote local assets globally.
