Google has unveiled a new quantum supercomputer called Willow that can perform certain tasks in minutes that would take classical supercomputers an astronomical amount of time. While quantum computing poses threats to security systems, including encryption methods used in Bitcoin, it is not an immediate threat. Google's Willow chip has 105 qubits, far less than the millions or billions needed to break encryption. In the meantime, the crypto industry has time to develop quantum-resistant algorithms. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has called for updated security procedures and tools in a quantum computing world. Overall, the threat of quantum computing to Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies is not imminent.
