Russian State Duma Deputy Anton Tkachev has proposed creating a strategic bitcoin reserve for Russia, according to a document obtained and reported on by RIA Novosti. Tkachev sent the proposal to Russia's Finance Minister, Anton Siluanov, suggesting the creation of a bitcoin reserve similar to the traditional currency reserves held by Russia. The document argues that limited access to international payment systems due to sanctions makes cryptocurrencies crucial for international trade. Tkachev suggests that a strategic bitcoin reserve could enhance Russia's financial stability by providing an alternative to traditional currencies, which are subject to inflation and sanctions. This move follows the trend of other countries, including the United States, El Salvador, Brazil, and Poland, considering the establishment of strategic bitcoin reserves. Russian President Vladimir Putin has also recently stated that no one can ban or prohibit the use of bitcoin, and the country has legalized bitcoin and cryptocurrency mining.
