Ross Ulbricht, the founder of the Silk Road dark website, has been released from prison after serving nearly a decade behind bars. Ulbricht was charged with narcotics and money laundering conspiracies by the U.S. government and was sentenced to double life imprisonment plus 40 years in 2015. He was also accused of paying for multiple murders, but these charges were later dismissed. Despite being celebrated within the Bitcoin community, the decision to free Ulbricht has faced criticism outside of the crypto space. Speculation has arisen regarding whether Ulbricht still possesses secret Bitcoin wallets, as the U.S. government has already seized a significant number of Bitcoins from him. The community is unsure if Ulbricht still has claim to any remaining Bitcoins related to Silk Road.
