The National Data Protection Authority (ANPD) in Brazil is actively monitoring the activities of World, formerly known as Worldcoin, due to the risks associated with processing biometric data. The ANPD has requested information on the tasks performed by the company and is treating World differently than other entities, limiting the protections it might enjoy. World collects biometric data through iris scans using specialized hardware cameras and offers a reward in its currency for the scans. The ANPD has required detailed information on various aspects of World's activities, including the legal basis for data processing and the transparency of personal data processing. World opened operations in Brazil in November and claims that over 150,000 people have already scanned their irises for the project.
