In May 2021 the Ethereum network encountered some finality issues on May 11th and 12th. The cause of the issue remains unknown, however two of the most popular Ethereum clients, Teku and Prysm, have quickly taken action and released upgrades to their software in order to stop attestation flooding and restrict beacon nodes from using too many resources during such events. The deployment of these fixes was announced by a health consultant of Ethereum – superphiz.eth – on Twitter, addressing the first step of decentralization and diversity, and learning from the experience to move forward with greater purpose.

Specifically, the upgrades have focused on attacking the issue from its source and integrating optimizations to reduce resource usage. Thanks to this, the network can maintain stability and robustness. Each client has its own selling points, such as Teku’s Java-based integration which promotes scalability and performance, and Prylabs’ robustness, flexibility and ease of use. The commitment and action taken by these two developers to improve the Ethereum network is evident, and with more developers adopting the clients, hopefully Ethereum will have more decentralization, diversity and stability.
