Congress kicks the can

Congressional leaders have introduced a stopgap bill to fund the government for three more months, narrowly avoiding a government shutdown. However, the new deadline for agreeing on a budget falls within President-elect Trump's first 100 days in office. Lawmakers have until Friday to pass the bill, which is 1,500 pages long. Approval of violating the 72-hour rule and unanimous approval in the Senate are necessary for passage before the deadline. Republicans and Democrats agree that the continuing resolution is the best way to prevent a shutdown.
